NWFA, National Wood Flooring Association:

Installation, Sand & Finish Certification

The NWFACP’s Installation Certification program recognizes competence and understanding in the installation, sanding, and finishing of wood flooring. This certification process includes both a written and a skills examination.

NOFMA National Oak Flooring Manufacturer's Association: Seeking Wood Flooring Inspector Certification

The NOFMA - CWFI program is the only certification program to require a combination of educational training, practical experience, and both site review and report review in order to earn credentials. The program qualifies the individual requiring they have experience in the flooring industry. The inspector must successfully complete a five-day training course and pass a written exam at the conclusion of the course.

Those who pass the exam must then complete a minimum six-month probationary period during which they are required to conduct on-site wood flooring inspections accompanied by a NOFMA representative. In addition, certification prospects must submit reports from other site inspections, each of which describes a different type of flooring performance problem.

The probationary period ensures the inspectors can truly perform the inspection as well as issue a report that meets NOFMA’s standards. Because inspections often are used in dispute resolution between homeowners, flooring contractors and manufacturers, the ability to accurately and succinctly report findings is just as important as an inspectors knowledge of wood flooring.

NWFA, National Wood Flooring Association: Inspector Certification

The NWFACP’s Inspector Certification program recognizes competence and understanding in the inspection of wood flooring. The inspection certification process includes a series of five written examinations. Once all five examinations are completed successfully, provisional certification will be awarded. During this provisional period, the candidate will be required to complete five actual inspection reports and submit them to NWFACP for review. All five reports must be submitted with a 12 month period after notification of provisional certified wood flooring inspector status. After this requirement has been fulfilled, full certification status will be awarded.
